Some of the things we&#8217;re showing to you this week are our newly implemented Corrupted warrior, enemy weapon improvements, audio for our spell-shaping system, improved building textures, visual improvements to our frozen spear, and a new level. Over the past week, she put the finishing touches on him and Chip imported him into the game. Utilizing the material editor within UE4, Chip was able to amp up and pulse the character&#8217;s subtle, emissive glow, making him all the more eerie.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/7lrXb8qaZd0\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Enemy Weapon Improvements<\/h2>\n<p>Prior to last week, enemy melee attacks were inconsistent, and unvaried, and unrealistic. Even if the weapon collided with your character during a swing, there was a small chance that the attack wouldn&#8217;t even cause damage. On top of that, allowing for variation of weapon damage from character to character required some pretty involved coding, and we didn&#8217;t have any variation as to the weapons used for each character (or the damage that each applied).<\/p>\n<p>After a lot of work and playtesting, we&#8217;re really proud of how weapons perform in-game.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Each enemy has a variety of appropriate weapons that they can start with, from a kitchen knife all the way up to a heavy maul, and each with an associated weapon damage range<\/li>\n<li>Depending on the strength of the enemy, their weapon damage can be increased or decreased appropriately<\/li>\n<li>If an enemy weapon overlaps with the enemy&#8217;s target at any point during a swing, a range of the weapon&#8217;s melee damage is consistently applied, regardless of the direction of the swing or the size of the weapon<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/fictorum.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/FictorumWeapons.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-548\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-548\" src=\"https:\/\/fictorum.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/FictorumWeapons.png\" alt=\"Fictorum Weapons\" width=\"500\" height=\"271\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fictorum.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/FictorumWeapons.png 2880w, https:\/\/fictorum.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/FictorumWeapons-300x163.png 300w, https:\/\/fictorum.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/FictorumWeapons-768x416.png 768w, https:\/\/fictorum.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/FictorumWeapons-1024x555.png 1024w, https:\/\/fictorum.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/FictorumWeapons-600x325.png 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nThis adds much more variation to the types of enemies that the player will face, and, in turn, makes each enemy unique and potentially deadly.<\/p>\n<h2>Spell-Shaping System Audio<\/h2>\n<p>We&#8217;ve already spoken in-depth about <a href=\"https:\/\/fictorum.com\/blog\/2016\/02\/10\/dynamically-modify-magic-with-fictorums-spell-shaping-system\/\" target=\"_blank\">Fictorum&#8217;s\u00a0Spell-Shaping System<\/a>, but something that we&#8217;ve never really touched on is the audio for the system, possibly because there <em>was<\/em> none previously! Well, that all changed this week, as Chip implemented audio that is based on the output of the rune used.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/8nQ57fsA4_c\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;ll notice that as we shaped towards each of the runes within the shaping triangle, a new layer of sound was gradually added until it had reached its maximum. As the Spell-Shaping System is the most important aspect of our game, we are delighted with how much more mystical and powerful it feels after these\u00a0improvements.<\/p>\n<h2>Improved Building Textures<\/h2>\n<p>Leif has made incredible progress on improving our buildings. After tinkering with it&#8230; well&#8230; perhaps it&#8217;s still not quite as good as Mordhau&#8217;s ballista, but it&#8217;s certainly much closer to what we initially envisioned.<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/JQ8rUwhRS0s\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2>New Level<\/h2>\n<p>Greg created a brand new level called Desert Castle.
