{"id":327,"date":"2016-01-11T12:01:06","date_gmt":"2016-01-11T20:01:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fictorum.com\/blog\/?p=327"},"modified":"2016-02-22T16:15:21","modified_gmt":"2016-02-23T00:15:21","slug":"fictorum-update-9-spell-shaping-system-runes-quests-and-ai-improvements","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fictorum.com\/blog\/2016\/01\/11\/fictorum-update-9-spell-shaping-system-runes-quests-and-ai-improvements\/","title":{"rendered":"Fictorum Update #9: Spell-Shaping Runes, Quests, and AI Improvements"},"content":{"rendered":"<hr \/>\n<p>Last week, we implemented a ton of new features, fixed scores of bugs, and recorded our first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=YgwmBkCZi1Y\" target=\"_blank\">gameplay video<\/a>, so, in comparison to all of that, this update may seem a little more reasonable. \u00a0We&#8217;ve added significant improvements to the runes within our Spell Shaping system, enabled our events to have quests within the game, and created new, deadly abilities for our enemy AI. Also, after receiving feedback on our gameplay video, Chip picked up a more powerful video card so that we can better handle playing the game and recording video at the same time. Once you&#8217;ve started casting a spell (either left mouse button or right trigger) you can press the spell shaping button (right mouse button or left trigger) and move the mouse or right stick to increase certain spell effects. In the GIF\u00a0below, I cast the same fireball spell; The first is without spell shaping, and I shape the second towards the multi-shot and high explosive runes\u2014you can see the effect on the spell release.<\/p>\n<div class=\"gfyitem\" data-title=\"false\" data-autoplay=\"true\" data-controls=\"false\" data-expand=\"false\" data-id=\"VainDownrightBurro\"><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The added bonus of using this system is that time slows down while you are shaping a spell, allowing you to tailor the cast to best suit a situation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>You can also find runes throughout the game that you can use to enhance different spell properties. In the GIF below, I&#8217;m changing fireball&#8217;s spell-shaping rune set by swapping out the multi-shot rune for the concentrate rune. Also, the Inquisition Captain can now cast an Ice Spell at you, making the Inquisition\u00a0an even tougher foe.<\/p>\n<div class=\"gfyitem\" data-title=\"false\" data-autoplay=\"true\" data-controls=\"false\" data-expand=\"false\" data-id=\"WhoppingWhoppingBalloonfish\"><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Announcement of an Upcoming Announcement<\/h2>\n<p>We mentioned this in last week&#8217;s update; nothing is set in stone yet, but we&#8217;re currently in talks to bring more artists and sound techs onto our team. \u00a0Hopefully, we&#8217;ll be able to talk about this in more detail next week!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Next Week<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Greg plans to add in Storm improvements and functionality<\/li>\n<li>Chip plans to add a little bit more polish to the spell-shaping runes and also create some new structures to be blown up<\/li>\n<li>Chip also plans to record another short gameplay video<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Talk to you next week!
